What is inside the code?
Plain text in fixed lines: the tag “BCD”, version, character set, “SCT” (SEPA Credit Transfer), BIC, name, IBAN, amount in euros, purpose code and reference. Open “QR code payload” under the tool to see exactly what is encoded. Error correction level M keeps it readable even if slightly damaged.
FAQ
What is an EPC QR code?
A standard QR code for SEPA credit transfers defined by the European Payments Council (EPC069-12). It contains the payee name, IBAN, amount and payment reference. The payer scans it in their banking app and only needs to confirm. In Germany and Austria it is known as “GiroCode”.
Which countries and banks support it?
It is widely supported by banking apps in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland and other euro countries. Support elsewhere is growing. It works for euro payments only.
Do I need the BIC?
Not for payees inside the European Economic Area – version 002 of the standard allows it to be left out. For IBANs from e.g. Switzerland or the UK it is required.
Is my data safe?
Yes. The QR code is generated in your browser; the IBAN and other details are never sent to a server.
How big should the code be on an invoice?
At least 2 × 2 cm, ideally 3 × 3 cm with a white margin. Download the SVG to keep it sharp at any size.
