How the work hours calculator works
Enter when you started and finished each day and how long your breaks were. The calculator subtracts the breaks and shows the time actually worked – as hours:minutes and as decimal hours – with the total for the week below. Use 24-hour times or your browser's AM/PM picker.
Monday to Thursday 8:00–16:30 with a 30-minute break, Friday 8:00–15:00 with a 30-minute break:
4 × 8:00 + 6:30 = 38:30 hours = 38.5 decimal hours for the week.
Tips for accurate timesheets
- Write down start, end and breaks every day – reconstructing a week on Friday is where mistakes creep in.
- Unpaid breaks are not working time. Paid rest breaks (common in some contracts) should be left out of the break column.
- Round the way your employer does. Many round to the nearest 5, 6 or 15 minutes; this calculator shows the exact figure.
